16. The God’s Hunger
The orchard is still, the trees watching in
silence, as if they know what is about to
unfold.
The girl holds the apple in her
hand, and she feels it - tremor beneath
her skin, a hum that shakes her bones.
The god's hunger is sharp now, raw and
insistent, pushing against her, pulling at
her.
Her mouth
opens, and she
takes a bite.
The taste is sweet and
bitter, filling her senses,
and with it,
the god's voice rises inside her,
low, rumbling, a deep groan that
echoes in the orchard.
It speaks in whispers,
in
demands,
in hunger.
The earth trembles.
The town is oblivious, but the
god's presence grows, like a
shadow cast across the land, a
weight pressing down on
everything.
The fruit will fall, the
harvest will come,
but the god will not be
satisfied with it alone.
It wants more.
