13. The Curse of Remembering

Her words, her poems,
were never meant to be so
powerful.
But they have broken the
seal, opened the
door to something that should
have stayed buried.
The god is awake, and
the town will never be the same.

The girl begins to write again, but
this time, the words come slower,
heavier, laden with
the knowledge of what she has set
into motion.
Her heart beats backward, still in rhythm with
the god's, and
each word she writes feels like
an offering. An offering to the god, an offering
to the past.

But she cannot stop.

She cannot turn away from the
truth she has uncovered.

The god is awake, and
it cannot be forgotten.
Not now.
Not ever again.
